Sales of Volkswagen Tiguan in the South Korean auto market are expected to surpass the 20,000-unit mark this month, industry sources said Thursday.

The compact crossover vehicle (CUV) manufactured by the German automaker sold 19,573 vehicles between its launch in South Korea in July 2008 and the end of last month, they said.

The CUV has sold an average of 630 units per month this year.

So far, three foreign-brand models have exceeded the 20,000-unit sales mark. They are BMW 520d, BMW 528 and Mercedes-Benz E300.

Tiguan became the best-selling imported model in the first 10 months of this year in South Korea, with 6,371 units sold, trailed by Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI (5,286 units) and BMW 520d (5,279 units).
