Asiana Airlines, South Korea's No. 2 flag carrier, will be barred from operating the Incheon-San Francisco route for 45 days for the crash of Asiana Flight 214 at San Francisco International Airport in July last year, the government said Friday.

The decision came in a meeting of the Administrative Measures Deliberation Commission, which was held at the Government Complex in Sejong City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said.

The penalty will go into effect about three months later to minimize inconveniences to the public, the ministry said.

Currently, the airline company operates a daily flight between Incheon and San Francisco international airports with a Boeing 777 plane capable of accommodating 295 passengers.

The Asiana Flight 214 carrying 307 people - 291 passengers and 16 crew members - crashed on July 6, 2013 as it was landing at the San Francisco airport, leaving three dead and 187 injured.
