Lydia Ko, a South Korean-born New Zealander, has been named as winner of the 2014 LPGA Rookie of the Year award, the association said Wednesday (local time).

Ko, who was born in Seoul on April 24, 1997, became the youngest winner of the award in LPGA history. Her Korean name is Ko Bo-kyung.

Laura Baugh, the 1973 winner, previously held the record of youngest winner at age 18, according to the association.

“It’s really been a dream rookie season for me,” Ko was quoted as saying. “I learned so much and am glad to have achieved some of my goals along the way. It’s an honor to have my name now etched alongside such amazing players and legends of the game on the list of Rookie of the Year winners.”

Ko is ranked No. 3 in the women's world golf rankings.
