'Interstellar' tops box office last weekend

"Interstellar," directed by Christopher Nolan, topped the local box office last weekend as soon as it opened in South Korea, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) Monday.

The sci-fic adventure starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway attracted a total of 1,663,173 moviegoers during the Friday-Sunday period, said the KOFIC that tracks box-office sales. 

The space epic was released at cinemas across the country Thursday.  

South Korean director Oh Ki-hwan's comedy flick “Fashion King” starring actor Joo Won and K-pop star Sulli of f(x) made its debut at second, drawing 284,309 viewers.

David Fincher’s thriller “Gone Girl” starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike moved down two notches to third place with 147,542 moviegoers, after topping the box office for the second consecutive week.
