The price for the Apple 1 smashed its pre-sale estimate of $300,000-500,000.
The Apple 1 was designed and hand-built by Apple Computer Co.'s (now Apple Inc.) co-founder Steve Wozniak, reports say. His friend Steve Jobs had the idea of selling the computer, Apple's first product.
About 50 units were produced on orders from a home appliance retailor, named "Bite Shop" and they went on sale at a price of $666.66 per unit, they say. Later, 150 more units were produced and all but less than 50 were sold.
