During the first nine months of the year, 88 labor-management conflicts were reported, up 76 percent from the same period last year, the government reported Monday.

However, the number of working days lost through labor disputes decreased 4.1 percent to a combined 417,000 days, according to the report of the Ministry of Employment and Labor,

About 45.2 percent or 4,479 of 9,905 companies with 100 workers or more completed annual negotiations on wages in the January-September period, slightly lower than 46 percent tallied a year earlier, the report said.

Four of five automakers completed negotiations on wages. They are Hyundai Motor, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong Motors. Negotiations are still underway at Kia Motors.

Of three major shipbuilders, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering ended wage negotiations. Negotiations both at Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries have made little headway.
