Of Asian countries, India and Iraq placed 71st and 73rd, respectively, while Malaysia came in 36th; the Philippines, 40th; and Thailand, 44th. Taiwan and Japan ranked 55th and 64th, respectively.
The results are based on interviews with more than 133,000 respondents in 135 countries and areas around the world.
Panama topped the list. Other countries with the highest overall well-being included Costa Rica, Denmark, Austria, Brazil, Uruguay, El Salvador, Sweden, Guatemala and Canada.
The United States fell outside the top 10, ranking 12th.
Among the countries with the lowest overall well-being were Syria, Afghanistan, Haiti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Madagascar, Uganda, Benin, Croatia and Georgia.
