Overseas credit card spending by those residing in S. Korea soars 17.9% in 2nd quarter

Overseas credit card spending by people residing in South Korea posted double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive quarter in the April-June period due to a strong won and an increase in the number of tourists travelling overseas, data showed Tuesday.

According to the data compiled by the Credit Finance Association of Korea, the amount of overseas credit card spending by those residing in the country reached US$2.98 billion in the second quarter, up 17.9 percent from the same period last year.

By nation, the United States topped the list with $842 million, followed by Britain ($149 million), Japan ($137 million), France ($132 million) and China ($123 million).
