S. Korea wins Little League Baseball World Series championship

South Korea won the Little League Baseball World Series championship on Sunday (local time), by beating the Great Lakes Team from Chicago, Illinois, the United States.

It was the country’s first win at the tournament since 1985.

The Great Lakes Team won the U.S. title, but lost 8-4 to South Korea in the championship baseball game.

Shin Dong-wan hit a solo home run during the fifth inning of the championship game held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, giving South Korea a 4-1 lead.

South Korea advanced to the final, after defeating Japan 12-3 in the international championship game at the Little League World Series Saturday.

The world series, a baseball tournament for children aged 11 to 13 years old, is held every August in South Williamsport.
