“Roaring Currents,” a film on the victory of Adm. Yi Sun-sin's 12 “Turtle Ships” against a Japanese fleet of 133 in 1597, surpassed the 10 million viewer mark on Sunday, its local distributor said.

The movie exceeded the milestone in 12 days since its release, the fastest record in South Korean film history, according to CJ Entertainment. It drew 10,778,980 moviegoers.

It was nine days faster than the previous record-holder "The Host" (2006).

Veteran actor Choi Min-sik, who starred in “Oldboy” (2003), plays the role of Adm. Yi who defeated Japanese Hideyoshi’s invasion (1592-1598) of the Korean Peninsula.
