​‘Kundo: Age of Rampant’ tops box office

South Korean film “Kundo: Age of the Rampant (2014)” topped the country’s box office on Saturday, by attracting 868,542 moviegoers, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) said Sunday.

Its ‘ticket sales accounted for 61.8 percent of the total, according to the KOFIC that tracks box-office sales.

The history action film, directed by Yoon Jong-bin, sold more than 2.3 million tickets nationwide in just three days since its release on July 24, it said.

“Kundo,“ based on a civil uprising that occurred during the 1849-1863 reign of King Cheoljong, the 25th monarch of Korea‘s Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910), depicts a butcher-turned-bandit who fights against the then exploitative upper class. It stars actors Ha Jung-woo and Kang Dong-won.

U.S. fantasy animation “How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)” ranked second with 307,039 viewers.
