Colombian striker James Rodriguez signed a six-year contract with Spanish club Real Madrid on Tuesday (local time).

Spanish media said Real Madrid paid about 80 million euros for Rodriguez from AS Monaco. If that figure is correct, it is one of the soccer’s most expensive player transfers.

Rodriguez said: "I've always followed Real Madrid and always dreamed of playing here. I've suffered a lot to get here and when you do that then it tastes so much better,“ according to FIFA.

The 23-year-old also became the FIFA World Cup adidas Golden Boot winner in Brazil, with six goals and two assists.

Rodriguez’s volley for Colombia against Uruguay was voted as the “Goal of the 2014 FIFA World Cup” in Brazil by more than 4 million football fans worldwide.
