The badly decomposed body was discovered on June 12 in a plum field about 2.5km away from the Songchijae Service Area in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, they said.
Based on the results of a DNA test on the body, the police said the body’s DNA matched that of the ferry owner Yoo Byung-eun’s older brother, Byung-il,
It also matched those of a DNA sample investigators obtained on May 25 from a nearby vacation home where Yoo was reported to have holed up, and another one they acquired during the second raid of Geumsuwon, the stronghold of the Salvation Sect in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, on June 11.
Investigators have been gone on a hunt for the 73-year-old billionaire businessman Byung-eun who owns Chonghaejin Marine Co., holding company of the sunken vessel. Byung-eun is suspected of tax evasion, embezzlement and other irregularities.
