‘Dawn of the Planet’ tops box office for 2nd weekend

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” an American science fiction film, topped South Korea’s box office for the second consecutive weekend between Friday and Sunday, by drawing 1,052,182 moviegoers, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) said on Monday. Its ‘ticket sales accounted for 48.6 percent of the total.

The film, directed by Matt Reeves, has sold a total of 3,142,836 tickets nationwide since its release on July 10, according to the KOFIC that tracks box-office sales.

"The Divine Move," a South Korean action/noir film about a former baduk (go game) player's quest for revenge, ranked second for the second consecutive week last weekend with 476,694 viewers. It has sold 3,194,568 tickets since its release on July 3.

U.S. science-fiction film “Transformers: Age of Extinction” came in third with 213,038 moviegoers, followed by “JU-ON: The Beginning of the End, a Japanese horror film, with 204,559 viewers.
