Germany routed host Brazil 7-1 on Tuesday (local time) and advanced to the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In the final, Germany will face the winner of the semi-final soccer match between Argentina and the Netherlands scheduled for Wednesday.

The final will be held at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

With its 7-1 victory over Brazil, Germany set aside memories of when it was defeated 0-2 by Brazil in the final of the Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup in 2002 and is seeking its first World Cup trophy since the 1990 tournament in Italy.

In Tuesday’s semi-final match against Brazil at the Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Germany’s forward Thomas Mueller scored the opening goal in the 11th minute.

Germany recorded four more goals in the first half.

Brazil's midfielder Oscar scored his side’s lone goal during injury time in the second half.
