US is capitalism society. Basically, society encourges people to spend rather than saving. That is social atmosphere in the US.
However, they are also economical. They don't spend that much money for purchasing luxury-brand handbags, watches etc.
They also try to save their budget by purchasing second-hand things. Garage sale is the typical 'place' people buy second-hand things.
Garage sale is a kind of individual trade. This is a sale of miscellaneous household goods, often held in the garage or front yard of someone's house.
Garage sale is good for both of seller and buyer. Sellers can dispose 'unnecessary' goods in the house and buyers can buy 'necessary' goods with much cheaper price. That is win-win game.
I can say that this is one of the good social culture in the US.
