People first
In the U.S., pedestrians always have right of way.
According to the U.S. traffic law, cars should yield to pedestrians at crossing and the more important thing is that most US drivers follow that rule thoroughly. (except big cities such as New York, Boston)
When driver and pedestrian arrive the intersaction at the same time, U.S. driver usually lets pedestrian go first. (in fact, driver will get traffic ticket if he/she doesn't stop in some state.)
Pedestrians feel comfortable when they cross the road and there is a consensus that people are always first on the road.
In light of the culture of "car first" in Korea, this is something we need to consider adopting in order to improve traffic safety.
