“The Xian plant will go into operation in May,” Kim Ki-nam, president of memory business at the company’s display semiconductor (DS) department, told reporters after a meeting of top company executives in Socho-dong, southern Seoul.
The company invested US$7 billion in building the plant to produce 10 nano-level NAND flash memory chips, which are used for smartphones and other mobile devices.
The Xian facility will be the company’s second semiconductor plant abroad after the one currently operating in Austin, Texas.
