A high school student was found dead over the weekend in front of his apartment building in the city of Daegu, police said Monday that it was the eighth suicide case in past six months caused by school violence.

A security guard of the apartment building found the 16-year-old student‘s body on Saturday evening and reported it to police.

Shortly before the 16-year old’s suicide, he wrote that he might take his own life in a KaKaoTalk message, a popular mobile-phone message service in South Korea. The student also left a message hinting at committing suicide on his computer, according to police.

According to the police investigation, the student suffered an injury in his eardrum last January after being beaten by his seniors in high school, they were members of a football club.

Last December, a middle-school student in Daegu committed a suicide over school bullying, sparking nationwide public concern. Since then, six other teenage students from Daegu have died in apparent suicides despite the government‘s large-scale campaign to fight against the school violence and bullying.
