An average New Yorker Emily Kim never thought in 2007 that uploading videos on YouTube of herself cooking Korean food would get her where she is today.

Kim is known as “Maangchi” online, meaning hammer in Korean and she now has more than 37,000 subscribers and has more than 6 million total upload views of her videos on YouTube.

Unlike other cooking shows on YouTube, Kim’s videos are not a high quality cooking show but she believes people come to watch because the recipes are good; the recipes are from her family in Korea.

In addition, Kim hosted a kimchi-making contest in Prospect Park and donated part of the proceeds to NYC’s Food Bank. She’s planning to host another Korean food contest this spring.

Emily Kim’s hobby led her to become a business woman and she plans to spread her talent and passion for Korean food to the world.
